August 19, 2016 – Preseason MW Cross Country, CU Tennis adds new assistant, and the Colorado Cup begins today

The Colorado State Ram Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams received a large amount of recognition when the Mountain West Preseason Coaches’ poll was released yesterday. The Ram Men were picked 1st and the women’s 3rd. The Ram Men return a pair of All-Americans, redshirt-senior Jefferson Abby and redshirt-junior Jerrell Mock while the women nearly the entire team that placed 4th at the conference meet and 8th in the region (click here to read more). Air Force Men’s Cross Country was picked 3rd and their women 4th in the same poll.

University of Colorado tennis coach Nicole Kenneally announced the hiring of Kieran Burke as her assistant for the upcoming 2016-17 year. He replaces Blake Mosley who was hired as Appalachian State’s head coach this offseason. Burke was a part of the Vanderbilt program last season that made it to the NCAA Semifinals before falling to eventual NCAA Champion Stanford 4-2 (read more here).

In spite of having a new head coach, the Denver Pioneer Volleyball squad was picked to win the Summit League yesterday. Head coach Tom Hogan was an assistant last year and returns three all-league selections from a year ago – Kayla Principato (first team), Cassie Baird (honorable mention) and Becca Latham (all-freshman). The Pioneers also bring back Ruth Okoye, who was named Summit League tournament MVP in 2015 (click here to read more).

The annual Colorado Cup kicks off the women’s soccer season with all six NCAA schools competing against one another largely over the next week. Today’s action will see:
