August 20, 2016 – Colorado Cup Opens with a Bang

The Colorado Cup, featuring all 6 of the Division 1 Women’s Soccer teams in the state, opened up with three very competitive matches.  The Northern Colorado Bears secured the only come-from-behind victory downing Colorado College 2-1, also securing the only win by a home team on Day 1 of the event. Lauren Millet scored for the Tigers in the 12th minute and CC carried a 1-0 lead to intermission. Sophomore Mariel Gutierrez scored the tying goal for the Bears in regulation and the game-winner on a penalty kick in overtime (read more here).

Colorado State opened their season with a win for the first time in school history. The Rams defeated Denver 2-0. Kaija Ornes scored in the 9th minute and Beth Plentl scored in the 34th minute to secure the victory (read more here).

Colorado also won 2-0, downing Air Force on the road. Sarah Kinzer and Alex Vidger scored for the Buffs. The game was delayed for nearly two hours due to lightning in the Colorado Springs area prior to the contest (read more here).

The Colorado Cup resumes play tomorrow in Boulder with Northern Colorado vs. Air Force, Denver vs. Colorado College and Colorado State vs. Colorado.
