September 13, 2016 – Accolades Abound

Northern Colorado Bear Quarterback Kyle Sloter was named both the Big Sky and STATS FCS Offensive Players of the Week yesterday. In the Bears 55-52 shootout win over Abiline Christian, the senior went 25-of-32 for 408 yards and 6 TDs after coming in when starting quarterback Jacob Knipp suffered a shoulder injury. He tied a Bears record for passing TDs in the win (read more here).

Air Force Men’s Soccer goalkeeper Jake Schenk was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week yesterday. The senior, who has yet to allow a goal this season, was perfect between the pipes as the Falcons shut out Bryan 6-0 on Sunday (read more here).

The Colorado Buffalo Volleyball team was ranked 18th in the latest AVCA Division 1 Coaches Poll announced yesterday. The Buffs entered the rankings following the successful Big Ten/Pac 12 Challenge two weeks ago and in spite of their loss to now-#10 San Diego over the weekend, remained one of six Pac 12 teams in the poll (read more here).

Abbe Holtze and Glenna Yancey were both named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for the 5th ranked Colorado College Tigers yesterday. Holtze was named this past weekend’s Tournament MVP as the Tigers improved to 8-0 while playing at home (read more here).

Jake Dermerath, Jake McAllister and Alex Vonholle scored for the UCCS Men’s Soccer squad but it wasn’t enough as they lost 7-3 to #20 Fort Hays State. The Mountain Lions found themselves behind 4-0 at intermission (read more here).
