The opening weekend of the Colorado Cup saw the University of Denver take the early lead thanks to two golden goal victories. Yesterday’s 1-0 win over Colorado State saw junior Leah Swander score a goal in the 99th minute to secure a 2-0-0 start (see the recap here from the University of Denver). Friday night,  the Pioneers used senior Jessie Dancy’s 93rd minute goal for a 1-0 win over Air Force (see the recap here from the University of Denver). Friday’s win was the first time since 2014 the Pios won a game in the Colorado Cup.

Northern Colorado also started the weekend 2-0-0 in the Colorado Cup, with wins over Colorado College and Air Force. Northern Colorado wasted no time getting on the board in either game. Sunday saw UNC score in the 6th minute with senior Brooke Braden assisted by fellow senior Erica Estes. They’d score 10 minutes later and hold on the rest of the way for a 2-0 victory over Air Force (see the recap here from the University of Northern Colorado). Friday saw them score in the 11th minute en route to their first ever win at Colorado College by a 3-1 tally (box score). The Bears hold the lead in the Colorado Cup standings thanks to a +4 goal differential. They wrap up their action in the Colorado Cup on Thursday when they host Colorado State.

In other Colorado Cup action over the weekend, Friday afternoon saw Colorado State and Colorado played to a scoreless draw in Fort Collins (box score), while on Sunday Colorado downed Colorado College 1-0 (box score).
