August 18, 2016 – Preseason #1, 3 Players Go Pro, and More

Colorado State Ram Volleyball, the seven-time defending Mountain West champions, were picked as conference favorites heading into 2016 by the league’s coaches as announced by the Mountain West yesterday. Additionally, CSU, who is ranked 25th in the AVCA Division I Preseason Coaches Poll, received six out of a possible 11 first-place votes. Alexandra Poletto was also named to the Preseason All-Mountain West squad (read more here).

The three members of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men’s basketball 2016 senior class will each continue their basketball careers as each signed professional contracts with teams in Europe, as released by UCCS yesterday. Alex Welsh signed with Siarka Tarnobrzeg, a member of Poland’s top basketball division.  Dalton Patten signed with Citybasket Recklinghausen, a member of the Germany ProB division. And Kendall Godley signed during the weekend with Pallacanestro Salerno of Italy, a member of the Serie C league (read more here).

Olympic action was sparse yesterday, but today’s action has already seen the Women’s High Jump. Former Western St. Mountaineer Barbara Szabo placed 32nd in the qualification round clearing 1.80 meters. She is competing for her home country of Hungary. She did not qualify for Saturday’s final.
